I just got finished powering my Perculator on and testing. Voltages tested good. Plugged in guitar and, man, it’s awesome. Playing it into a Carvin 1×12 cab with an Eminence GT12-8. I am surprised at just how good it sounds. And when I crank it up, it gets punchy!

I still have to do the wood shell. Haven’t decided what stain/color to use yet, but probably going to make it a modern version. Also looking into a acrylic front instead of the cloth grill, and possibly laser etching something cool on it.

I am really enjoying this kit. Maybe I’ll be up for building another tube amp kit soon.

Finally got the front grill done and some pics.

Front of amp. Look at that tube glow!

    Back of amp.

This thing sounds fantastic, but it is also aesthetically pleasing. I like how the tube glows. some amps have LEDs inside the cabinet to simulate the tubes glowing, but this is the real deal!

    Romeo,
I’m glad to hear you are enjoying your Percolator. It looks really good.
What type of screen are you using for your grill? Did you paint the screen, or did it come that way? It’s really nice looking.
    Thanks for sharing your work!

    Hi Brach,

The screen is a steel mesh that comes in a roll and is sold as car grill mesh. It is coated with black PVC. It wasn’t exactly as I had expected – the holes were not as big as I thought they would be – but I like the look of it anyway. I really wanted to be able to see the tube from the front, especially since it actually glows. It just looks so cool to me.

Thank y’all for building such a great and fun kit! This is my first tube circuit build. But I feel like maybe I can tackle something more complex now.

    Thanks,
    Romeo

Thanks for telling me about that. That stuff seems like it would make a good grill for some other amps…future projects.
I’m glad you enjoyed the amp building experience! Hopefully you’ll eventually get into designing your own amps…that’s where the real fun is!
    Take care and good luck!
